Thank you for sending donations of new socks to support our Keystone Elementary Socktober project for those in need at local shelters.  Socks will be collected through October 31.

Word Work - I know and apply grade level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

This week's words are unusual past tense verbs.Students bring their pretest papers (salmon color) home on Mondays to use as a study sheet to practice at home for the week in preparation for Friday's test.
Unit 6 Spelling Words: throw, threw, know, knew, write, wrote, sleep, slept

Reading - I can read grade level text accurately (95%) and fluently (Fall 90 wpm, Spring 116
wpm, Winter 131 wpm).
I can determine the main idea of a text.
I can recount key details of a text.
I can explain how details of a text support the main idea using text evidence.


Students continue studying character traits at the teacher table during Reader's Workshop this week.
Please be sure to have students record their at-home reading minutes on their Crooked Antler reading calendar sent home last week.

Writing - I can stay on topic and organized in my writing.
I can plan my writing with the help of adults.

Grammar- I can identify nouns.

Students continue writing a complete personal narrative about their field trip to Bloomsbury Farm. They will also explore character traits by writing about their own!
Science - I can use evidence to support the explanation that traits can be influenced by the
environment.
Last week students compared a dry lima bean seed to a soaked one, and discovered a baby plant (embryo) inside waiting to grow. They also learned about the seed coat and cotyledons. Our seed and plant study continues in our Outdoor Learning Space, in addition to some exciting new additions to our classrooms later this week! 

Math -  I can use strategies for adding within 1,000
Work with addition strategies, with and without regrouping, using numbers up to the thousands place. Basic fact fluency building continues with daily Rocket Math. A few students are getting close to passing the last level of addition and will soon advance on to Rocket Math subtraction.
